LIGHTWEIGHTING 3D PRINTED INJECTION MOLD TOOLS WITH NTOPOLOGY

nTopology, a generative design software, and Fortify teamed up to investigate if a lightweighted 3D printed mold tool will perform the same as or better than a non-lightweighted 3D printed mold tool. To test this theory, we chose an electrical housing mold because it has been designed to be a torture test to improve molding outcomes. It's used as a benchmark for things like printer process changes, new molding materials, and new molding processes. We utilized nTopology's latticing capabilities to redesign the core of the mold tool and ensured it was still printable on our Fortify FLUX Core machine.
